It seems that the much-loved Earl Grey tea was named after the 2nd Earl Grey who was the British Prime Minister in the 1830’s. He reputedly received a diplomatic gift of tea flavoured with bergamot orange oil. This distinctive, aromatic tea is light and uplifting and is the perfect companion for scones and other afternoon tea delights.
